The continuing adventures of Fiona-can-only-post-at-airports!

At San Francisco this time: I may have just bought some super-kawaii gel stickers from an independent-bookstore-affiliate-cute-shop. Look, the cute compelled me! YES PANDA. It’s all [livejournal.com profile] hakusa_tegami’s fault for talking about Love Shuffle.

…yeah, Ovid the Macbook totally has a panda sticker now. XD

(Hey, so speaking of pandas, did anybody else see the Ranma 1/2 drama special? OH JAPAN.)

...

I recently explained my love for (manga/anime; let us not talk about the ridiculously boring drama) Skip Beat in the following manner:

I love the hell out of the manga (A+ use of chibi!). Partly because Kyoko is spazzy and awesome and it's all about her emotional journey and learning to be herself and have her own dreams and stuff IN SHOWBIZ. And partly because there is a character who is occasionally JUST LIKE ME.

Kyoko: MOKO-SAN!!! <3 <3 <3
Kotonami: Stay the hell away from me.
Kyoko: WE ARE BFF!
Kotonami: We are not friends. You are insane.
Kyoko: FRIENDS FOR LIFE!
Kotonami: ...
Kyoko: *clings like a spider monkey*
Kotonami: ...
Kotonami: Just because we both have to wear these ridiculous pink jumpsuits and work for the same section of the agency and occasionally have talks about our dreams and worries and careers and boys and stuff. Does. Not. Make. Us. Friends. Got it?
Kyoko: ILU MY FRIEND!
Kotonami: ...
Kotonami: "Moko"?
Kotonami: Did I say you could give me a nickname?!
Kyoko: FRIIAAAANDS!
Kotonami: *sigh*

If you haven’t already guessed (or have never actually met me), I am not at all like Kyoko. (Online is another matter, especially if you want to talk about books or dramas!) But I suspect that in RL we would be friends.

Autumn is here at last! Tis the season for leaves and apple cider and also, apparently, for single young gentlemen to attempt to score dates at bookstores. I don’t know what it is about the season but there must be something in the water. Other, better socialized people may find getting hit on at work more amusing than I do, or even productive, but my patience is wearing thin. Normally I cultivate an aura of STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME, but for obvious reasons I have to discard it while at my retail job.

Also, as we all know, my heart belongs to a long-dead young scholar named Phanokrates. Are you named Phanokrates? Or Zai Zai? No? Then go away; I have work to do.

Woke up at 6 (damn boiler as usual), went back to sleep, woke up again at 11:56. Oops?

It is nice and cold and rainy outside, but the only thunder is inside the building when somebody thumps down the stairs and makes the floor shake. I got sick of it and re-arranged my bed/dresser configuration so that at least now the thumps will be a few feet further away from my head. It’s kinda cozy. I’ve never slept in a nook before. I do now.

Anyhow the apartment is pleasantly gloomy and dim-lit and would be even better if it were full of clean laundry, but there you go. That’s for tomorrow. I also need another poster now that the dresser is no longer hiding a particularly egregious patch of wall.

Got bored, made cookies. Note to self: unless gingerbread, NO MORE than two tablespoons of molasses. Really.

And then I made [livejournal.com profile] cadragongirl watch the Bad Boy episode of Big Time Rush because she had been talking about posers earlier, and then we went back and watched Big Time Audition. Her response was pretty much, “Wow this is SO STUPID how many episodes are there?

...Big Time Rush is a lot like we hoped You’re Beautiful would be, except without the cross-dressing nun.

And then we had the following highly ironic conversation about which one of us was going to have to marry some outrageously rich guy with five mansions so the other of us could live in the guesthouse:

ME: You marry him.
M: You marry him.
ME: Maybe Vic Zhou will do a movie in the States, fall madly in love with me, and save us from this dilemma.
M: He’s all yours. Also, isn’t he kinda old for you?
ME: FOR SHAME.
M: No, I’m pretty sure he’s kinda old for you.
ME: You and me. The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry. STAT.

Sometimes, life is good.

I hate group projects. I hate trying to write things with other people. I’m not going to pretend that I’m a great writer, but I can see so clearly these days how things could be more effectively stated, how they could be more precise or make a greater emotional impact. Sigh. Being the one with the Vision is hard when you're not the one in charge.

...

As part of my mission to overanalyze everything, I got the first season of Roswell out of the library last week.

Roswell: Teaching Us All The Difference Between Plants, Animals And Aliens )

...

On to my other favorite topic! I watched the first two episodes of Strongest Chil Woo and wasn’t quite as impressed with the hilarious badness as other people have been. Maybe it loses a lot in translation, since the subs are actually rather good. Have long since given up on The Rose as hopelessly boring.

Watched the first and only subbed ep of Koishite Akuma (the drama of bad CGI vampire fang trailers), which was hilarious. Possibly unintentionally. I was only going to watch that one so I could laugh at [livejournal.com profile] snowqueenofhoth, but I might have to keep going for the hilarity. Had to stifle my laughter as I was in the library at the time. Let’s face it, vampirism will never not be a metaphor for sex. I kept snickering every time Vampire Junior felt his teeth to see if his fangs were growing in.

I've started Triple too, and it's the most adorable thing ever. Also decided to give Buzzer Beat a try, after somebody’s recap with screencaps. I think Yamapi actually cracked half an expression once or twice, although his hairstyle is still a crime against hair. I might keep watching-- I like basketball quite a lot, plus there’s a violin girl, pink basketball uniforms, and plenty of gratuitous pretty. Yay!

What are you all watching these days?

Months ago I promised [livejournal.com profile] cadragongirl I'd post some comments on Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang. I never quite got around to it, but here's a (hopefully) complete history of my drama-viewing activities with comments. (The dates in parenthesis refer to the broadcast date, not the year in which I watched the show. It's been about a year since I started watching these, in case anybody wondered. The lists are organized by country, and then by approximate date of viewing.)

Massive Procrastination This Way )

I apologize for not including summaries, but that would take days to put together! If you'd like me to elaborate on plot/actors/opinions for any of these dramas, I'd be happy to do so in the comments.

Wah, more papers. Can't I just watch my weepy, overly long yet strangely addictive twdrama in peace?

On plus side, this paper is about Chinese food. (How various characters feel about it, and what that says about the heroine's insecurities. Or something.)

On minus side, I really want Chinese food now.

(Re: music: Okay, there's a reason this guy plays the Sensitive Musician character in Meteor Garden. I'm... almost impressed?)

Dear Reader,

I am being spied upon by two pint-sized maniacs who are thoroughly overexcited by every move I make (or fail to make). Yesterday I managed to send one of them into convulsive fits merely by shifting the position of my knee. I have no concern for my own safety, as I am about five times their combined size, but I do fear for their mental stability.

Also, what is it with Ovid and cows? Jeez.

Television in general, and Hannah Montana specifically, are God’s gift to babysitters. That is what is in my heart right now.

Life goes on. The denizen children are still a bit shy with me but we are getting along all right. One of their appalling friends keeps asking me “When are you leaving?” every time she sees me, which is a bit disconcerting. I have the urge to say something vile to her but am restraining myself, as she is young and it is not her fault that she has no manners. I should warn people to look out once she gets older though.

The New York Chronicles: Hic Incipit Vita Nova Saevaque )

I have also discovered the Bookstore Cafe in Soho. LOVE.

Btw, the movie meme is still happening in the previous entry. Now with extra quotes! Because I'd hate for some of these to go unguessed...
