I’m trying to put together a holiday playlist for the bookstore, which is supposed to involve 60-70% normal music and 30-40% holiday. I should probably note at this point that I hate holiday pop music. As I scroll through my iTunes, pretty much all I have are a few Johnnys songs, a bunch of nasal traditional Celtic stuff, the Love, Actually soundtrack, and Draco & the Malfoys’ version of All I Want for Christmas.

All I want, it turns out, is a Great Big Sea holiday album. PLEASE, GUYS?

I mean, it would probably be all about drinking and partying and being stranded on an ice floe with both your legs chopped off while your sweetheart runs off with a Yankee sailor, but you know. IT WOULD STILL BE AWESOME.

you totally have to put Ai no Katamari on there. There's a w-inds. christmas song too, actually, Celebration. and a whole bunch of random jrs christmas songs like another christmas and stuff.

...There's 2 big time rush christmas songs coming out soon?

Kate Rusby has one, and Loreena Kennitt's is gorgeous, if it helps. Also I quite like Sufijan Steven's christmas albums, which could be pop enough for the bookstore.

I should mention that I have a thing for weird/obscure holiday music. (ie: random goth holiday music with sepulchral versions of carol of the bells)

I confess to being very fond (in memory, at least) of Chanticleer's version of Il est né. It wouldn't blend well into very many playlists, though.

So much holiday music is dire, and yet that which I love, I adore. Great Big Sea, eh? Maybe I should expand my musical horizons again.

Try John Denver & The Muppets. It's hard not to love :)

I also find most X-Mas music much more palatable when sung by Ella Fitzgerald.

the trans-siberian orchestra has some cool stuff, though it's instrumental & there's always the home alone soundtracks
