I wouldn't call it a chore. You have Season 1 with Christopher Eccleston, and he is pretty great, and then season 2 begins and you get 3 Whole Seasons of David Tennant as the Doctor; pretty much the best tv experience there is. Also, you have to watch out and not forget about the Christmas specials. Mostly because David Tennant's first appearance is in "The Christmas Invasion."
Matt Smith, starting in Season 5, is ok. He is a passable Doctor. I am still watching the show and liking. But I miss David Tennant a whole bunch.
