True, the horse was a bit recalcitrant, but that was over with by 8:00 and the rest of the day commenced to be pleasant, if that's the phrase I want. I interrupted my Parmenidean labors to go in search of food, which turned out to be, at the end of my quest, a Really Wonderful smoothie: rung up, served, and (I like to imagine) lovingly prepared by a Cute Guy with whom I intended to talk, until I got distracted by a magazine with an interview written by a certain journalist-turned-author. (Ah well. I can always go back there next week - why yes, I did happen to note the day and time. I dare you to laugh. What? I didn't finish reading the interview.) In addition to this, I was politely, unexpectedly good-morninged by a couple of scruffy-looking-but-cute strangers on my way back to the library. The wonderful thing about this city Down the Hill, as we say, is that, dubious as many of the good citizens are, they are inclined to greet random passersby at every opportunity. Also, there is a profusion of inept street musicians.
