timeripple: (riko says buzzer beat!)
Apparently today is Georgette Heyer’s birthday? GAUDEAMUS IGITUR! I recently helped launch a campaign at work to carry more of her books, and I think it worked. I also dared my partner-in-mayhem to do a staff rec for a gay cop/demon romance crimefighting novel (Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale). FOR THE GREATER GOOD!

Look, it’s been MONTHS since our re-jacketing Young Miles stunt. I have to keep myself entertained somehow.

...

Sometimes you just want things that aren’t totally outside of the norm, but that you haven’t had in a while. Sometimes you just want a really good middle grade novel, even though you’re the, you know, resident YA expert. Sometimes you just want the damn Kraft mac’n’cheese even though it has no actual cheese content (normally a cardinal sin against food, but damn, it was tasty the other night).

Sometimes you just want a really good jdrama, one that reminds you of why you started watching them in the first place.

I am watching FOUR!

- Ouran High School Host Club (IT'S PERFECT)
- Hana Kimi remake (I miss Toma terribly even though reboot!Nakatsu is doing a great job)
- Ikemen Desu Ne (I figured it would be gloriously terrible. I did not expect it to be actually glorious!)
- Zenkai Girl (Our Heroine is so much like me in some ways that it’s terrifying)

All of them are currently airing. MY SANITY, WHERE IS IT?

What is it with remake dramas this season being more focused, more tightly written, and having less annoying characters than the originals? Mizuki has a brain and possibly life goals. MIO has a brain and possibly life goals (which is even more astonishing). REN has both a brain AND the emotional maturity of an actual person. Shu is kind of creepy (sorry Fujigaya) but whatever. JeremyYuki is adorable. We can do without Jolie, but Jeremy/Bus OTP! If there’s anybody who needs a bus song it’s him, not Moo Kyul. Maybe Jeremy inspired the bus song in Mary Stayed Out All Night.

ACTUALLY, THAT WOULD EXPLAIN A LOT ABOUT THE BUS SONG. XD

For the first time in about a year and a half, I’m not watching any kdramas. I was sorta keeping an eye on recaps of Heartstrings and Myung-wol the Spy, but Heartstrings is almost over and Myung-wol seems to have gone to hell in a handbasket with production drama, so who knows how that’ll even turn out. Hopefully better than Bad Guy, which faced a similar sudden problem of, uh, NO LEAD ACTOR.

What are you all watching? What are you reading? What do you think of Kraft mac’n’cheese?
