I'm not completely sure, but my book says that in prose it's a series of three sentences or clauses, structured sort of parallel-ly, usually building up to some summation in the third one, often emphasized by a variation of some kind in said third sentence or clause. Or something. Dunno. *shrug* It was in our dumbed-down Cicero.
