Television in general, and Hannah Montana specifically, are God’s gift to babysitters. That is what is in my heart right now.

Life goes on. The denizen children are still a bit shy with me but we are getting along all right. One of their appalling friends keeps asking me “When are you leaving?” every time she sees me, which is a bit disconcerting. I have the urge to say something vile to her but am restraining myself, as she is young and it is not her fault that she has no manners. I should warn people to look out once she gets older though.

Today I tried on every pair of trousers in H&M in two sizes, and finally bought two slightly too large. Now I just need shirts and shoes... good thing I am only scheduled for two days a week so far. Maybe I can has tailoring skillz?

Yesterday was too bright; today was foggy. This morning I walked around a bit feeling a little lonely, or something. Saw a lovely Hebrew academy, some beautiful townhouses, walked along Riverside Drive a couple of blocks. Cannot imagine growing up here. It seems the sort of place one moves to in order to be a starving artist or something; yet there were strollers out and about, and small children abound in the apartment building. It is strange to be sharing the home of strangers. But strangely not unpleasant. The cat likes me, as long as I do not try to brush her haunches with the wire brush. I very much hope that the human inhabitants and I will deal excellently together.

This is a city you could dream in, sometimes.

If only I could find some clothes that fit.

My hands are going all lined and scored. Maybe I will grow scales next, like a dragon. It is much nicer to think of becoming a dragon than to think of getting old and wrinkly.

Today I attacked the slush pile with a letter opener and a bunch of rejection letters. My very first day on the job and they’re already letting me wield sharp objects!

Also bought a few things at Old Navy. Yes, I know they’re evil. But they’re a CHEAP kind of evil.

Ye Newe Movie Reviewe: The Spiderwick Chronicles. Eh. It was... okay? I dunno. There wasn't anything wrong with it, per se, but it didn't do a whole lot for me. Not that I'm exactly the target audience, but still. *shrug*

I am teaching myself to hem trousers. This would probably work better if I had an iron. Or a, you know, clue. Even a sewing machine would do. Oh well.

Also, I watched Annie (yes, while hemming trousers), and there is no number called “NYC”. Am I crazy? Am I dreamin’? Am I marrying a- wait, no. Did I hallucinate an entire song-and-dance? Did VHS somehow have a deleted scene that DVD has deemed too painful to inflict on Ye Olde Loyale Vieweres?!?!

Today I sent a form rejection letter to someone with the same name as a certain irritating Ayn Rand protagonist. I feel good about this. Also, I want to go to Africa.

Amazing how New York has an entire fashion district and yet I cannot find anybody to sell me normal spools of thread. You know, thread? About 400 yards of the stuff on a little plastic cylinder?

Am becoming practically an installation at the Lincoln Center Barnes & Noble. Read the first part of Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith, a lot of which I skimmed because it was mostly hiding in the woods and dodging around getting scratched by twigs and being totally oblivious. Also had a rather interesting conversation with some old guy who claims to have been Hector Elizondo’s body double in The Thief. I need to check out the American Museum of the Moving Image, it seems. Yay!

I had a revelation last night while waiting for my hair to dry so I could go to sleep. High-speed Internet. Do you Realize What This Means?!

That’s right. I can watch Meteor Garden, or anything else, whenever I want.

Ye Olde Newe Movie Reviewe: The Other Boleyn Girl (Disclaimer: I have not read the book). Er, what? Look, exactly how many weedy-looking dudes in silly hats was Mary involved with, anyway? Because there were at least three of them, and they all looked pretty similar. Unless one was the brother? At least Eric Bana is more convincing as Henry VIII, physically, than a Certain Creepily Gorgeous Person last year. And did all the ladies pass around the same pearl-encrusted hood that looked like an A-frame in silhouette? I swear they did. And the end? Hello? James? Mary? Anybody?

Also, this one wins the prize for Trailer Drumming Up Most Misleading Plot Point, hands down.

I fear I am dangerously addicted to Meteor Garden. The Domyouji character is so insane. SO INSANE. It is glorious. It is awesome.

I was going through my old writing class stuff today looking for my Matsuo Basho-imitation travel diary. Found it, and was astonished to discover that I was not, in fact, trying to be ironic. I don’t think. But it does actually read like a badly-translated... something. With irony. This was quite possibly the worst writing class ever. And yet without it, my expectations for that anime class would have been different, and I would probably have been disappointed instead of utterly, insanely delighted.

What we can learn from this experience, my friends, is that clearly LJ is the savior of my travel writing career.

I have also discovered the Bookstore Cafe in Soho. LOVE.

Btw, the movie meme is still happening in the previous entry. Now with extra quotes! Because I'd hate for some of these to go unguessed...

you're not too far from where i work - we should totally do lunch sometime, though the sit-down places are kind of pricey, but we could always grab something cheaper at a deli & sit in the park!

is this what i think it is?! japanese, taiwanese or anime version? because i thought the japanese version was called boys over flowers or something like that. the taiwanese version was a total blockbuster & the actors who played f4 later formed a pop band also called f4. there's also a meteor garden II, but i heard that it pretty much sucked. seen the taiwanese version & the anime is on my huge & ever-growing list of things to watch. where do you watch it?

I tried to watch Hannah Montana last week, to see what all made it so best-selling. it was one where the class went on a camping trip in the woods. there were lots of funny bits, but the two mean girls in H's class drove me nuts and I stopped after 15 min. didn't get to see the part where Miley changes into Hannah, which is what I wanted.

I have not yet seen The Spiderwick Chronicles, and I haven't seen The Other Boleyn Girl (but am not planning to). but on Sunday I went and saw Penelope, which I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for! I loved it. ^_^ in a few days Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day comes out, and I want to see that. Enchanted comes out on 3/18, which is five days past my birthday, but I'd like to see it again.

I shall write you an email. ^_^

Hm. There is a number in that show called "NYC" or some such about how New York City is the most glorious city in the world in which to be alive and urban and a young dreamer and all that, and I am almost certain that it is in at least one film version of the show. It is, however, entirely possible that it is not in one of the two film versions I am aware of.

speaking of the Buffy musical episode... Improv Everywhere pulled out a win recently, and if you haven't seen it, I think you'd enjoy. Search Food Court Musical on YouTube.
