The official release date is August 1, so no worries! It will be coming to a theatre near you, surely!
To be honest, I did have a few issues with the film- I too am sensing strains upon my relationship with Andrew Davies. I think they were really trying to play up the romance and passion, and in doing so they lost a lot of that lovely elegiac tone. It seemed like they weren't totally consistent with the direction they wanted to take things, either. But it mostly worked, and it was very pretty. I enjoyed it. And Aloysius did put in an appearance (just not enough. I will confess to an irrational love for Aloysius, however, so perhaps others regretted his absence less). The actor playing Charles Ryder was excellent, and of course Emma Thompson is always a joy. They used the same estate for Brideshead Castle as in the miniseries, so you still get that iconic fountain, too.
