Sungkyunkwan Scandal

It's been a few weeks since I even mentioned dramas! How did that happen?

Short answer: I am a productive member of society and thus have no time.

Long answer: Sungkyunkwan Scandal, OMG IT IS THE BEST THING EVER.

Plucky Heroine Yoon Hee (alias Yoon Shik) is forced (through a series of well-intentioned mishaps that were totally not her fault) to go undercover disguised as her brother at Sungkyunkwan, the Joseon-era Ivy League for future leaders of the land. The stakes? Well, the penalty for a woman disguising herself as a man and studying at the university is death, so...

The thing is, it doesn't stop there. There's a serious political plotline that ties into Yoon Hee and the other characters' personal journeys, it's beautifully filmed, and the music is great.

There are, inevitably, comparisons to Hanakimi. And actually it is kind of like Hanakimi. If Hanakimi actually had a plot that made sense, Mizuki was a smart-mouthed feminist advocate of the proletariat, Nakatsu was an idealistic bookworm, Dorm 1 leader was the smoldering series antagonist (that's right I said "smoldering"), Dorm 2 leader was in love with Sano the hot rebellious ninja archer, Dr. Umeda was an undercover agent on a secret mission, and Mizuki/Nakatsu was the OTP.

Yeah. It's that awesome.

I'm sure you already know about this or have had many other opportunities, but in case you do not or have not, Catherynne Valente is signing at Pandemonium on Dec. 11.

edited to fix stupid-looking link.

I want to go SO MUCH. I went to the event they had for Palimpsest, and it was awesome. Hopefully I can get the day off from my not-nine-to-five-Monday-through-Friday job! *plots*

I hope you don't mind me friending you--your response to my Perilous Gard comment at Sarah Rees Brennan's blog gave me an inkling we may have Things In Common, and that the latest entry on your blog is about K-Drama confirmed all my terrible, terrible premonitions.

Oh fudge. A character-by-character comparison to Hana Kimi? Now I'm going to have to try watching this one...

Hello and welcome! Delighted to make your acquaintance. :D

SKKS is amazing and you should totally watch it. I think fusion-style dramas are officially my favorite kind of kdrama!
