Thanks to bizarre circumstances that could have been avoided if Jin actually had a competent management team for his American tour, I will be going to his New York concert on Sunday! (I bet that is not where you thought that sentence was going!)

[livejournal.com profile] mousapelli and I are flailing in preparation for Super Awesome Fun Times in the City. There will be karaoke! and accessorization! I am getting super excited, even though I’m not terribly familiar with Jin's new stuff. Still! There will be bagels. And possibly gold nail polish. And I have tons of thin gold ribbon left over from Halloween. Oh, the possibilities...

...

I showed up to an off-hours sales presentation today in an outfit I’ve been meaning to try out--black & off-white patterned sundress over 3/4 sleeve black shirt, black skirt underneath (for added length), new grey patterned tights, heeled boots. I think it worked pretty well--a cute but dressy vibe, inspired by this classy San Francisco scientist lady and her penchant for layering skirts and dresses all over the place.

I did not expect anyone to notice.

CO-WORKERS: Oh, wow. Do you have a date later?
FIONA: ...I--no, actually I don’t.
CO-WORKERS: You look... very put together. We are surprised and impressed.
FIONA: Hey, I don’t have to dress like a homeless hipster musician, you know.
CO-WORKERS (suspiciously): Are you sure you don’t have a date after this?
FIONA: ...it was laundry day? XD

...

A few days ago I watched 8uppers, the Kanjani8 movie. And you know what? It really works. It’s not narrative genius or anything--pretty much does what it says on the box--but the movie knows what it is, and plays it to the hilt. The production values and cinematography are good, and the guys basically play themselves. As hitmen. Who own a bar.

And randomly get stuck with a baby. Hitmen by day! Bartenders by night! Involuntary child-rearers 24/7!

Subaru is long-suffering and worries about the morality of their career and gets stuck doing all the paperwork. Yoko kind of runs things and drives the getaway van (VW bus, natch). Ohkura does the dishes and pours the drinks and is generally superior from his vantage point behind the bar. Ryo gets pwned by small children and spends most of the movie shirtless for no apparent reason.

...

...

...I still can’t tell the other three apart. XD

I really enjoyed it, though. There are some fun action sequences and some really great moments. The look on Subaru’s face when they’re shopping for baby stuff--priceless. The baby carriage fight sequence. The wordless scene where Ryo wakes up from getting his ass kicked and it’s his turn to mind the baby--I won’t make any claims about ovaries exploding to life or anything, but--well--well played, Movie. Well played.

Lol, it took me forever to figure that out, even with all the mail and email johnnys sent me about about it. XD I was like wait, whut? ...AFTER IT CAME OUT.

...possibly this is because I basically pay zero attention to anything K8 in the first place. *x

Fiona, why did you even watch this?? If you ever try to tell me you are not a Johnnys fan, I shall LAUGH IN YOUR FACE.

-not bothering to sign in 'cause I am not at home

YES! Fashion for Nerds is my favorite!

Unfortunately, I feel like her layered ensembles really work best in Northern California coastal climates, as Boston summers require me to wear as few items as possible, and Boston winters work best for me if I just wear a normal outfit and a massive parka over it. Too much layering doesn't work in the winter here because indoors are usually heated to the degree that you feel like you're in a sauna, and you would have to slowly take off all 16 sassy layers to be able to breathe, and then put them all back on again with a parka on top to be able to go outside again...

We should create an East Coast version of Fashion for Nerds!

I think my aversion to identifying as a Johnnys fan is because I'm largely indifferent to JE itself and its machinations. I am a fan of some of the groups and people, though. Uh, some of them more obviously than others. XD

I watched it because it randomly showed up on the dramacrazy homepage one day! I HAD TO KNOW.

I only watched it because I was looking for Sungkyunkwan Scandal subs and there it was! I HAD TO KNOW!

Plus Ryo is in it without a terminal disease, of course I watched it. XD

That sounds awesome.

Ahahaha, we totally should. Though on some level I refuse to accept the fact that I'm not in Northern California, meaning I'm constantly either overdressed or underdressed. Seven New England winters have totally failed to convince me. All I need is a midweight coat! And armwarmers! And a hat if it's reeeeeeally cold out there!

Firmly seconding this.

I really enjoyed it. The movie does take some shortcuts in terms of character development, because it's assumed that the audience will have some idea of who these guys are and what their relationships are like. The result is a fairly short movie with more time to spend on fun things like shirtless Ryo stylish action sequences.

ahahaha, well, I'll do my best to obtain some. Sadly Ovid the Macbook doesn't have a working camera any more.

My mom took some pictures of the hair when she was visiting last week, so I'll get her to send them to me.

Fashion for Nerds is amazing! And I immediately thought of it when you started talking about layering skirts under dresses with tights.

I also want pictures of the hair. Redheads ftw!

Wahhh, mine's already pretty faded. So much for 6-8 weeks... If only it weren't so terrible for my hair, I'd re-dye it again immediately.
