Well Draco & the Malfoys definitely can't be on the playlist. KAT-TUN either.

I’m trying to put together a holiday playlist for the bookstore, which is supposed to involve 60-70% normal music and 30-40% holiday. I should probably note at this point that I hate holiday pop music. As I scroll through my iTunes, pretty much all I have are a few Johnnys songs, a bunch of nasal traditional Celtic stuff, the Love, Actually soundtrack, and Draco & the Malfoys’ version of All I Want for Christmas.

All I want, it turns out, is a Great Big Sea holiday album. PLEASE, GUYS?

I mean, it would probably be all about drinking and partying and being stranded on an ice floe with both your legs chopped off while your sweetheart runs off with a Yankee sailor, but you know. IT WOULD STILL BE AWESOME.

you totally have to put Ai no Katamari on there. There's a w-inds. christmas song too, actually, Celebration. and a whole bunch of random jrs christmas songs like another christmas and stuff.

...There's 2 big time rush christmas songs coming out soon?

I... I don't have Ai no Katamari! FAIL.

Can you even imagine a BTR Christmas special? I would bet ANYTHING Carlos gets the reindeer headband.

Kate Rusby has one, and Loreena Kennitt's is gorgeous, if it helps. Also I quite like Sufijan Steven's christmas albums, which could be pop enough for the bookstore.

I should mention that I have a thing for weird/obscure holiday music. (ie: random goth holiday music with sepulchral versions of carol of the bells)

Hmmm, must investigate. Most of my non-seasonal playlist is Celtic instrumental, with a good dose of Crooked Still and a little Vienna Teng and why do I not have any work-appropriate male vocalists, that is sad.

OH HEY I have the Mediaeval Baebes' version of Gaudete. That's a start.

Oh duh, Loreena McKennitt. I'm sure you figured that out. It's called a Midwinter Night's Dream (http://is.gd/hQRmL). Tori Amos also has one called Midwinter Graces (http://is.gd/hQQVc). I um, have kind of a lot of music, Christmas and otherwise. Let me know if you want anything zipped and uploaded.

Ooh. Excellent recs, thank you! OH HEY I totally have that Tori Amos song about snow and skates and mittens and fairy tales, that'll work. *busily gets searching*

...it's called "Winter." Of course it is. XD

I confess to being very fond (in memory, at least) of Chanticleer's version of Il est né. It wouldn't blend well into very many playlists, though.

So much holiday music is dire, and yet that which I love, I adore. Great Big Sea, eh? Maybe I should expand my musical horizons again.

Well, I hate most nontrad holiday music, except "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," because I first heard it on an episode of Ally McBeal (fine, laugh) and it was just so perfect.

GREAT BIG SEA A;LSKDFJA;LSKJFAS;LJFAD;LKJDS how have we been friends this long without you having been utterly bombarded a;lsjfal;sjfdasl HIE THEE TO MUSICAL HORIZON EXPANSION AT ONCE. A GBS holiday album, if such a thing existed, would be the most epically awesome thing ever.

Try John Denver & The Muppets. It's hard not to love :)

I also find most X-Mas music much more palatable when sung by Ella Fitzgerald.

You know, people I know rave about Ella Fitzgerald all the time, and I've even sold people a picturebook about her, but I'm not familiar with her singing at all. MUST REMEDY THIS IMMEDIATELY.

the trans-siberian orchestra has some cool stuff, though it's instrumental & there's always the home alone soundtracks

-m because i'm at work & don't feel like signing in. :P

Mmmmn. *takes notes* I may have to raid your iTunes at some point.
