Improper uses of "sayonara" in literature genuinely upset me

This is why I'm going to wind up being a copyeditor, which has got to be pretty much the only publishing job worse than being an editor.

I should probably mention that I really, really want to be an editor.

Makes me grit my teeth, too.

Only time I ever heard it in Japan were formal endings of the school day in homeroom, and when I left the country, I'm pretty sure...

And now I'm imagining all kinds of scenarios in which it would have been totally the right thing for the characters to say.

...it does liven the story up, that's for sure!
