My darlings, I have not dropped off the face of the planet—though it sort of feels like it—no, I am in California, and here I stay for the foreseeable future. Mind you, I can only deal with the future about two weeks in advance, so you see the problem with my life planning skills right here.

I have traveled by train and by car from one end of the country to the other, with lots of detouring in between and a brief stint where my friend M and I seriously considered becoming casino waitresses in Reno and then writing a trashy novel about it. [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli took me to a palace of wonders called Chocolate World and let me sleep on her couch and bond with Datte and watch all her con DVDs.

This has actually backfired, though, because now I’m in a KAT-TUN phase, and somebody needs to take all my music away from me, because I keep listening to 勇気の花 and then sobbing every time it gets to Hittori ja nai yo, nakama ga iru yo.

See, I'm crying again. No, stop. A road trip is more than what you leave behind. I have seen little harbor towns and shining cities and also elephants and a whole lot of sagebrush. I have participated in philosophical conversations about the human condition (lasting most of Kansas) and masqueraded as a German tourist (super useful for thwarting obnoxious panhandlers). I have visited the first coffee shop west of the Mississippi and driven past a mountain forest fire at night and seen the Milky Way.

Of many peoples—their cities he saw, and understood their minds;
Many perils his spirit suffered upon the sea.

Because a loose and selective translation of Homer is always relevant. Always.

More soon--I will try.

THAT IS MY FAVORITE KAT-TUN SONG. And lol when i listened to it for the first time I was on the NEX going back to Narita airport to leave and I totally ended up sobbing in public. OOPS.

Have you seen/heard the new single? I love it, both the pv and all the songs. KAT-TUN, I hope you can be like this from now on.

Glad you made it there safely! Your postcard came the other day. it looked like it had some adventures of its own, haha, but it was still pretty legible!

TEARS IN PUBLIC. THIS NEVER USED TO HAPPEN TO ME.

The one with the bowling? lol, I was so confused. DID THEY STUMBLE INTO A NEWS PV OR WHAT? Haven't heard the b-sides yet but I'm sure they'll be great.

Haha, that postcard HAS been through a lot. ;)

Aw man, I'm getting feels just because Japan, and travel in California, and Narita in the comments

I *will* listen to the song at some point!

for now, let me share an anecdote, which was that I misread your username (or really, I thought the icon was someone else's lbr) and they had suddenly discovered Kat-tun, and my mind bent for a moment, and then I scrolled back up and realized, no.

I haven't heard much of their music (I am not into j-rock, except on shows sometimes) but I have seen so many of their show episodes. SO MANY.
in fact, because of this it is weird to me ANYONE knows who they are.

And I'm sure there are parts that aren't awesome, but this roadtrip sounds so golden to me right now...

SO MANY FEELS.

Hahaha, that's pretty funny. I'm the opposite--haven't seen their show, but have been pretty enthusiastic about their music lately. They're sounding so polished and catchy, and a lot of the past year's B-sides are much better than the A-sides. I never thought KAT-TUN would be my inspirational get-stuff-done music. AND YET.

The road trip feels pretty golden to me, partly because I'm now totally stationary and don't quite know what to do with myself from minute to minute. But mostly because my friend M. is just about the best person to road trip with (it was her car) and it was An Experience.

That's awesome! Companions determine how good a trip is, no matter where you go.

Why does everybody keep wanting me to write a novel these days? I'm sitting on like three projects and NONE OF THEM ARE A NOVEL. Though I agree, somebody should write a trashy novel about being a casino waitress because it would probably be hilarious.

Sounds like the best use to put a drive through Kansas, honestly. Better than looking out the window. Sorry, regional partisanship; I don't really mean the insult to Kansas, but I do mean the compliment to good road discussion.

Hahaha, can you keep a secret? Parts of Kansas were actually pretty. Though I may be being influenced by the giant rainstorm that also happened, and by the gorgeous recording of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik that came on the radio when we were scrolling for weather info. I think EKN is badly overplayed--or maybe I just don't like the recording that I have--but this one was so light and lively and had almost a floating quality, it was beautiful. (I tracked down the recording later--here is part of it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKwJHPYqGko), performed by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.)

(The skies in Kansas are almost as good as here in OK, and Colorado. Because it's between.)
