I approve of all the Beethoven that’s going around the internet airways like an epidemic. An epidemic of AWESOME AND STRING QUARTETS.

Tonight in Korean class 선생님 corrected a future tense conjugation I’d done, explaining “you’ve got the rule right, but actually we don’t use it here because we don’t like to say the sound twice.” Guys, this is a language that breaks its own rules because it sounds better that way. I finally gave up all pretense at scholarly interest and scrawled “OH KOREA” in the margin of my workbook.

Since it’s again apartment-hunting time, here is a poem:

“Landowners”

From my rented attic with no earth
To call my own except the air-motes,
I malign the leaden perspective
Of identical gray brick houses,
Orange roof-tiles, orange chimney pots,
And see that first house, as if between
Mirrors, engendering a spectral
Corridor of inane replicas,
Flimsily peopled.
                           But landowners
Own their cabbage roots, a space of stars,
Indigenous peace. Such substance makes
My eyeful of reflections a ghost’s
Eyeful, which, envious, would define
Death as striking root on one land-tract;
Life, its own vaporous wayfarings.

(Sylvia Plath, 1956. p. 53 in The Collected Poems, ed. Ted Hughes, Harper Perennial Modern Classics, New York: 2008.)

such a bad friend in not keeping up with your LJ, though i did just catch myself up. looks like things are going well in berkeley. how are the korean lessons going? nice that you have an excuse for all of the drama watching - watch anything good lately?

i haven't been inspired by any of the recent ones, though gu family book might be a possibility. you know how i am about these things though. what have i been up to recently? mainly settling into new life here. i've recently caught the beginnings of a spring cold. :( at least, that's what i think it is. it's that or allergies & i can't decide which one i'd rather have it be & then the weather's be all over the place. anyway, the last show of the season is twelfth night & i wish you could be here to be my +1 for when i go see it. boo for being so far away.

anyway, i'll try to be more present here on the interwebs & then perhaps we won't feel so far apart. :) don't expect me to update my own journal, though. ;)

I miss youuuuuuuu! I wish I could go see Twelfth Night with you. ♥♥♥♥♥♥

I haven't really been watching anything, though I've been keeping up with recaps. Korean class was... interesting. The quarter is over for now, so we'll see whether they offer Korean 2 in the fall. Mostly I've been busy with work.

Did I mention that I miss you?

forgot to mention that i went to the yearly japanese street fair last month & saw a ton of people in cosplay. if you were here with me we could have totally gone with your idea of the the 2 girls from buzzer beat! , especially since i think my hair is now long enough for the topknot. ;) i wasn't able to stick around for it, but apparently they have a cosplay fashion show as well. maybe next time.

I am totally jealous of your Korean class, though there may be one in the city here, I have not checked.
I also could study more on my own.
BUT STILL

Also, I wanted to hear about Nobunaga no Chef, mentioned briefly in an earlier post.
