"Shelves in the closet! Happy thought indeed."

*dances*

Am now happy owner of Ellen Kushner's Thomas the Rhymer! Reading must be deferred, however, until I get back from my cousin's wedding in Canada.

Said wedding has somehow got me scheduled to fiddle to get people to 'gather' before the ceremony. Hope nobody expects Vivaldi or Bach; if so, nasty shocks all round. If there are no objections to sets of varying degrees of Scottishness, however, all will be well.

I am particularly proud of just having (mostly) learned a tune called "Mr. Beveridge's Maggot", which some of you may remember as the tune and dance in A&E's Pride and Prejudice (the one danced by Elizabeth and Darcy at the Netherfield ball).

Yup, am on full-blown Jane Austen kick. I am all happiness!

eep! (your post title)

eep! (Thomas the Rhymer.) Kaelin and I are going to the worldcon panel given by Ellen Kushner on Thomas the Rhymer this evening - it intergrates portions of the book read aloud with presentations of the original ballads put into the book. So Kaelin plans to read as much of my copy of the book before 9 as possible. ^_^

Aaaaahhhhh! I expect DETAILS! Which, no doubt, are on your LJ already, which I shall read shortly. I shall pester and badger you about Worldcon to no end! Ellen Kushner is SO cool.

I took not several, not some, but 40 pages of notes. so I haven't had time to put them up yet, but rest assured, both notes, anecdotes, and pics will be up as soon as I have the time. ^_^

Yay! I anticipate your report with slavering jaws and greedy sff/fantasy-craving eyes.

Mr. Beveridge's Maggot

Yay! A reference to that was on my very first fc resume... Did you realize that it's played in that wretched Gwenyth Paltrow Emma, too?

[identity profile] timeripple.livejournal.com 2004-09-07 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
Is it indeed? I had no idea. Actually I read Emma on the airplane. Alas, it contains rather less dancing than my beloved P&P.

First, where in Canada?

Second, dude! I've been going to all these concerts here and you should BE HERE. :( There's like, so much to share. And some of the people, everyone's all excited and they're like, 'oh, they're soooo good!'

And of course, I nod and smile and think in my head:

'Yeah, whatever, my roommate is better.'

;)

I feel like asking some of the performers to play Catharsis just to see if they know it...

Awww, shut up, you're making me blush.

I feel like asking some of the performers to play Catharsis just to see if they know it...

Heh. Go ahead, but they probably won't, as they're IRISH and it's CAPE BRETON. Ask for the Slopes of Sliabh Luachra instead, if you can pronounce it.

Of course I can pronounce it. ;)

So, what style is Tamlin?

[identity profile] timeripple.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
So, what style is Tamlin?

Dunno actually, but since Tam Lin is a Scottish ballad dude, I assume the tune is also Scottish.

Salt Spring Island. It's near Vancouver, and is this total artist mecca with very expensive B&Bs and resorts and things.
