from hallowed ground

This is going to be quick, because I want to go back outside into the wind and cold for a walk.

St Andrews is gorgeous; I've been here two days after four in Edinburgh and am in the middle of the muddle that is Orientation, or Freshers' Week. I'm not a Fresher, obviously, but we JSA's get to hang out and get cool stuff anyway. I've been exploring the town a bit when not being talked at or registering for e-mail and such. I suppose I'll get round to a longer update later, but I did want to say hello and let interested parties know I'm still alive.

Wish y'all were here!

Wah. I am lonely and I have no new books at present. Somebody say something, or I shall revert to mumbling about goats to my bare walls and my neighbors will find out ahead of schedule that I am, in fact, insane.

oooh. The wind and the cold. We haven't gotten to that stage yet, though leaves are starting to turn in little red patches. I heard some Fiddleheads jamming this afternoon as I walked through the Munger courtyard; we miss you.

Livejournal isn't working too well on campus, and hasn't been all week--so if Wellesleyites seem slow to post, that's probably why.

But mumbling about goats is usually a very good thing! Though the bare walls can perhaps not fully appreciate it.

Aha! I thank you for slogging through the Wellesley-LJ fog to bring me tidings, then. The leaves are just starting to turn here too, and what with the wind and the sea it's fantastic. I miss all my Wellesley friends/co-plotters/whatevers on a regular basis.

Righto. Goats it is!

Hey! Stumbled on over here via [livejournal.com profile] kayselkiemoon's journal, having noticed that you also are in Scotland (are Scottish?). I'm in Ayrshire, at Glasgow Uni, astronomy (solar physics) PhD. Whatcha doin' in St Andrews? Have friended you - is that OK? Like your journal, plus some common interests - the usual *g*. Nice to meet you :).

Nice to meet you too! I like having new friends. Alas, I'm not actually Scottish (although I am a descendant of various Highlanders and English who high-tailed it to Cape Breton as soon as they could, then came West to sell stuff to the miners during the gold rush), I'm Northern Californian. But it seems Boston wasn't far enough away from CA, so I'm doing a semester abroad to study Classics at St Andrews. Which reminds me that I should update my LJ profile.

Welcome to Astrometrics! (It's called that because I adore ST: Voyager. Sorry, Rachel.)

Is that a whole year here? My brother's doind a year abroad in North Carolina at the moment, where he is overheating, overworked and has started a football team :).

Alas, only the fall semester, and that only until the beginning of January. I'm taking my exams before Christmas and sticking around for the big Hogmanay shindig in Edinburgh.

I highly approve of football teams, even though I don't play football myself. That's if you mean real football, not American football, right?

woot! yay for friending the friends of friends ^_^

fiona: I add my apologies to rook's - lj has been insufferably slow for the past ageon campus. but today it's not too bad...

miss you, fiona dearie!

No need to apologise for things beyond your control. I hope the fabulous Wellesley computing people get the problem sorted out soon; they're good at that kind of thing and I have great faith in them! I miss you too.

LJ Maintenance are saying that the site is very slow for non paid users at the moment because of lack of new hardware (it's delayed). Maybe that's part of the problem.
