Today Our Anax Aphobontes Baccheuoon hunted me down. There was much hugging and exclaiming, and quite a lot of my Greek has mysteriously reappeared. Also, I now have a "Cave Canem" icon, just because I can.

Got the most wonderful sunburn from attempting to study under an olive tree. My phrase of the day has been “Out of my way, you appalling midgets!”

Rented some Jeeves & Wooster, the ones where they're in New York. I must admit I rather like Honoria Glossop.

Saw Days of Heaven this afternoon at the PFA. It was horribly boring, except for the parts where people were trying to kill Richard Gere, who is annoying even when he is young and vaguely attractive by virtue of a slight resemblance to Harrison Ford. Note to self: “most gorgeously filmed movie EVAR OMG” = “even the premise failed to make it interesting, having been squashed by lack of interesting anything happening or likeable characters, but there were some cool close-ups... of LOCUSTS.” NB (I’ve finally found out what that means): make sure actors can enunciate, or be taught to do so, especially when attempting to cross Chicago/Texas accents. Even if that winds up sounding like a New York accent, at least the viewers will then be able to understand the dialog.

The score, however, was beautiful. There should have been more of it, instead of OMG Artistic Silence so we can Absorb the Drama of.... People Trying to Kill Richard Gere, or, Nothing Happening at All.

In happier news, I have been watching the first four episodes of The Forsyte Saga. It is... um. There are many close-ups of Soames’ pinched mouth and chin. “Pinched” is a good word for him. Also, Ioan Gruffudd is pretty even when being subjected to plot spoilers. Silly Victorians. I spent most of the first two episodes wondering if the plot had been stolen from The Fountainhead or vice versa. Talk about messed-up love lives. Upon reflection, my own is nothing to complain about, as it is nonexistent. I am oddly reconciled to this. The automatic rice cooker and electric toothbrush were just minor dalliances. Honestly. After all, we all know my heart secretly belongs to Homer’s brother.

[livejournal.com profile] edajaram is coming to see me OMG so excited!
