the origin of love
Feb. 14th, 2009 11:09 pmTwo very important things about Valentine's Day in Fionaland are chocolate and luscious fruity things.
The other day I was walking along hungry in the freezing wind, and I said to myself, “What’s the one food I could eat on the go that would make me even colder?” And I replied, “A nice frosty chocolate milkshake.” And then I asked myself, “What’s the one food I'm reeeally craving just now?”
“...ooh, look, a Burger King!”
SO GOOD.
And today I had a smoothie from the place down the street. And you know what, it was pretty darn good too.
It should be remarked at this point that I am a total smoothie snob. Unlike many of my quirks, this one actually is identifiably a California thing.
Food aside, Valentine’s Day is about showing people you love them, or maybe about getting closer to somebody new, or watching other people freak out about it and thanking all the gods that be for your freedom. I myself had a hot date with some back issues of Publishers Weekly in pursuit of my latest project. Then I walked home happily by myself and serenaded my building with waltzes and half-forgotten Scottish love songs.
So, check, check, and check for me. :)
And I’m looking forward to Thing Valentine’s Day Is About Number Six, which is of course the candy sales (closely related to Things Nos. One and Two). Yes, this is important. I’ve got a whole bunch of new fillings that need breaking in.
Happy Valentine's Day, all!
