My computer... *gasp*.... needs .... *rattle-y exhale*... a new.... *rasp*... name...

I find my computer in need of a name. Any suggestions?

Naturally I thought of Marvin or Eddie, but that's just asking for trouble. Why do nice, normal, well-adjusted computers in books I've read never have names?

Mine is sirius, after the star. My desktop is orion. Choose a theme you're ioto and name from there. OUr department's computers are all named after solar system bodies. I've got Oberon.

Hey cool, I named my computer Orion too! I thought that it looked like a star when I put it to sleep and Orion is my favorite constallation.

Cool indeed!

On the other hand, "Anaxagoras" is a bit long. Still...

Yeah, definately my favourite constellation too. Oberon is very cool to have too - I was just saying in passing that I'd love, say, Oberon, because it has a cool name, and the next week the techie guy said, "you're getting a new machin, it's Oberon"!

I've in the past gone with Mycroft (the moon is a harsh mistress), euclid (the computer in the movie Pi), and Ono Sendai (the brand of computer (laptop) Case has in Neuromancer). I'm sure there are plenty of 'em out there. If it's a mac you might consider "7 of 9." Pretty, but ultimately kinda stupid.

"7 of 9."

Oh, I couldn't do that. What if it suddenly thought it was a Klingon and raided the fridge, or started saying "Inefficient" every time I tried to do something?

Maybe because they're nice, normal, and well-adjusted.

Come to think of it, maybe this is why Peet has issues...

Hah! You could name it REpeet. :P I crack myself up.

Your computer shares a name with a coffee company. No wonder Peet has issues. And don't you have a paper to be writing?
