the problem of induction, but not really
Mar. 3rd, 2004 07:46 pmDV14! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In other news, I must assert myself as either the most unbelievable US History geek or as one heck of a good guesser. The evidence: I was at the CPLA pizza dinner, and one of the guest professors said something to the effect of "In all but two elections, the candidate winning in the Ohio caucus won the presidential election. Which two presidents did NOT win in the Ohio caucus?" Bonus points if anybody knows this WITHOUT looking it up! And apologies if Ohio has a primary rather than a caucus; I can't remember which one it was. The point is, my silent but keen guess was correct. Fiona is officially a guessing genius. Bow to me or face my wrath!
And in more other news:
"That painter is good in his craft, I suppose, but he is shameful in his manners. For he is contriving with his companions that he, having destroyed the democracy, will rule all the cities."
"I wish that I may become like Aristophanes."
"In the well-governed city, the rule is shared [among the citizens]. For they [the citizens] themselves both rule one another and are ruled by one another."
"Having stolen things of others and at the same time having persuaded others to do the same, both not performing a sacrifice to the gods and teaching the young men to behave unjustly, was she harming the whole city, or not? Let her therefore pay for the things which have been done unjustly."
