the most tender place in my heart is for strangers

The Shop Around the Corner. AHAHAHAHAHAHA. My professor is right; this one IS immeasurably better than its remake (You’ve Got Mail). Also James Stewart is in it. This automatically guarantees at least a few squees.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I think the author of our textbook is guilty of negligence when it comes to describing the end. Jeff Smith’s success does not, as he claims, depend upon Jim Taylor’s succumbing to his better nature. Honestly.

Also, I love this movie.

Stagecoach. Er, what?

Citizen Kane. Er, what? I didn’t think the plot was all that interesting, to be honest, but the cinematography was stunningly cool. Especially the part in the beginning where the camera’s looking at a window from the outside, and then suddenly the window’s the same but we’re looking out from inside.

A High Wind in Jamaica. This is, like, the most pointless pirate movie ever. How one manages to make a BORING movie about a bunch of kids let loose on a pirate ship I do not know. But it is apparently possible.

Am also watching Samurai Champloo. Jin is my favorite. (No, [livejournal.com profile] snowqueenofhoth, not that Jin. Sorry.)

Yes! I knew someone, someday, would agree with me! Kate and I have fought about this. Thank you very much :)

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is what happens when a phenomenal actor and a phenomenal director get together. James Stewart and Frank Capra were the perfect match. Not that they didn't make some incredible movies apart, but I think this one, and It's a Wonderful Life, are the best performances Stewart ever gave.

This is the year I finally see It's a Wonderful Life, I swear.

They play it on tv every year at Christmas, but rent it first; don't watch it with commercial interruptions. They totally ruin the feel and the flow. And I'd especially like to know whether the last scene makes you weepy or makes you roll your eyes :) Needless to say, to me it does the former; it's pure Capra.

*g* I had a feeling I'd hear this.

it is true, Fiona. I don't like The Shop Around the Corner, which is very sad as I love Jimmy Stewart. I stick to my love of You've Got Mail. not that this precludes me from liking others - have you seen In the Good old Summertime? this is a 1949 remake that has Judy Garland and Van Johnson. I like it muchly. although when it comes down to it they are all adaptations of a play originally performed in German.

No, I haven't. *takes notes*

Oh, you like Neko Case, too! I love, love, love "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood." It's one of my favorite albums.

Actually this is the only song of hers that I've got - but I really love it! It's been stuck in my head for a week, in a good way.

I'm going to get you every Neko Case song I have (most of them are from "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood," but there are a few other miscellaneous ones).

You know you're one of my favorite people, right?

Oh, naturally :)

I am aware of who SamCham's Jin is, thank you. :P

But you like the other Jin, too. Admit it. ^_^

Um... suuuure.

[identity profile] satakieli.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Complete tangent... Do I remember you've seen and enjoyed Casanova? Or am I making that up?

[identity profile] timeripple.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're not making that up. I've seen and rather enjoyed it.

[identity profile] satakieli.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
ah, good! I'm glad it's not just me. I just saw it and was highly amused.
