Orthros no Inu, Episode 2

timerippleThe thing about jdramas is that sometimes it's what you bring to the drama that makes the viewing experience. And sometimes you really don't have to do a thing. Also, "BEST DRAMA EVER" does not usually mean "best" drama, but rather "most entertaining due to X number of factors, including but not limited to unintentional hilarity."
Okay, it's late, I'm tired, the point is, I felt compelled to share a number of insights that I feel really get at the thematic purpose of Orthros no Inu ep 2. Yes, there's the whole bit where the one person who gets killing powers is the one person least likely to use them, the balance of killing and healing, balance balance balance of the forces!, judgment and power over life and death, who should get that power, etc. etc. But otherwise, this is pretty much what the drama looks like in my brain.
Jdramas summary: Ryuzaki Shinji is a mysterious and ambitious man with a wicked heart, who possesses the power to heal pain and illness with the touch of his hand. Aoi Ryosuke, on the other hand, is a high school teacher with a gentle heart, but who has the ability to kill with his touch. The two happen to meet, resulting in a battle of good and evil.
(And there's a fairly badass lady cop, and some other people who run around in lab coats.)

EVERYBODY: *ANGSTS IN THE RAIN*
...nope, that's pretty much it. And at one point Ryo rushes in all knight in white shining pants and trips and falls on his face. "My hands are the hands of the Devil," says the man in the lavender dress shirt who wears white three-piece suits to class and pets stray puppies and trusts murderers and strolls angsting through the rain. XD
Episode 2
The medical examiners are totally OTP. They have dorky biochemistry conversations over fancy dinner! They flirt in the morgue! “Maybe you should try examining live bodies for once.” “Oh? Then I’d start with your... brain.”
Meanwhile...
TACKEY: *healz*
HIKARU: OMG! You’re secretly Max from Roswell?!
TACKEY: TAKE ME TO... YOUR LEADER.
HIKARU: Okay... wait, does that make me Liz?

COP!KIYORA: If you could kill with a touch, what would you do?
SINISTER BOYFRIEND: I’d get even with everybody in Maou who was mean to me or punched me or kicked me or refused to lend me money or turned their back on our childhood friendship!
COP!KIYORA: ...]
COP!KIYORA: If you could heal with a touch, what would you do?
SINISTER BOYFRIEND: I’d be RICH. DUH.
COP!KIYORA: I... am starting to think you might not be an entirely nice person!
TACKEY: Oh, I didn’t NEED to use you to get out of prison. I just wanted to watch you weep like a tiny junior as I betrayed your adorably naive trust and shattered your innocent illusions about human goodness.
RYO: I... am starting to think you might not be an entirely nice person!
TACKEY: How sweet, you’re reading love poetry to your comatose student.
RYO: Dude, why are you even here?
TACKEY: What did I ever do to make you so suspicious? You have a comatose student! I have a magical Hand of Healing! You're a teacher; 2 + 2 = ...?
RYO: *hopeful puppy eyesof DOOM*
TACKEY: Ahahahaha, just kidding!
RYO: No, why are you really here?
TACKEY: Just dropped in for another spot of creepy manipulation.
RYO: What’s that you say?
TACKEY: Er, I mean, NO REASON AT ALL.
TACKEY: You. Me. Partnership of Righteously Balanced Life-and-Death Dispensation and Hotness. What do you say?
RYO: ...Maybe.
And then everybody broods dramatically. A lot. Some of them while staring at their terrifyingly manicured hands.
I had to save ep 3 for tomorrow, because two episodes of this in a row might actually make me explode.
And I should stop now before I say anything else monumentally stupid. But in other news, I’m reading the manga Skip Beat! and I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

I'm relatively new to jdramas, but UNSUBTLE is pretty much the right word. Although I find I can do a lot of interpretation beyond what's actually in the script. (It rarely helps me make sense of things; it just satisfies some primal analytical need.)
That extra puppy treat ending, ;alskdjf;lsadjfs;. You could just see him thinking, "Oh, crap. Does this mean I, like, owe him now?"
I am really thinking that puppies are the underlying structural element here. XD Puppy eyes! Puppy treats! Actual puppies! It is clearly a Thing. ♥

i love how they wear white and black and are all colour-coded for viewing convenience. xDlol, pretty much. xD xD forget the two-headed helldogs, it's all about the fluffy puppies yo! ♥
