I think I have figured out why the education of women took so long to get off the ground. Certainly, men thought that women's brains would explode (I read this somewhere, I promise), because Greek made them think that their own brains would explode.

But the main reason was that they were too embarassed to discuss all the dirty jokes.

oh dear. I bet it was your teacher's fault. or the school's mandated syllabus. I enjoyed AP English for the most part, but ever now and then I had issues with my teacher. she was very strict and on one occassion made me cry in class. *sigh* I should endeavor to forget that episode.

but love of books Conquers All!!!

Actually I had relatively good teachers; it's just that the AP program hadn't heard of post-structuralism. (I, on the other hand, have heard of it. Doesn't mean I understand it, or understand the implications of my mentioning it here.)

What I think I mean to say is, everybody was still subscribing to authorial intent and it drove me nuts. Also, I was easily bored, and had a generally bad attitude. (Fifth and lastly, I was on the more intelligent end of the spectrum, so nobody ever told me how I could improve my writing. This caused all sorts of fun later on.)

Have you got hold of "The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden" yet by any chance (I think I heard about it from you, or via you, or something)?

I have I have!!! but haven't read it yet. I also have The Grass-Cutting Sword out from the library. I adore Catheryne Valente (although have only read short stories before this). she is [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna. ^_^

I have no idea what you mean by post-structuralism, but that's ok.

this sucks.
I was very bored for a lot of my ninth grade english class (definately due to the teacher, I fear), which lead to me reading through whole parts of it. now, sometimes this meant just reading my book after I'd completed the in-class reading assignment, but sometimes I'd read through whatever was going on. I did this through my ninth-grade algebra class, too. *roll*
