I think I have figured out why the education of women took so long to get off the ground. Certainly, men thought that women's brains would explode (I read this somewhere, I promise), because Greek made them think that their own brains would explode.

But the main reason was that they were too embarassed to discuss all the dirty jokes.

this reminds me of taking Elizabethan Shakespeare with Professor Ko. I'd read a bunch of his plays beforehand, but it wasn't until we read bits aloud and Professor Ko chortled and gleefully stressed the innuendo that I realized how chockfull of dirty jokes they really are. *grin*
(did you have Prof. Ko? it's hard to capture just how hilarious he is.)
